Wave Caustics Section

The main development of Wave Caustics Section is the technique for analysis of the crystallographic stricture of wave caustics, in particular, an elliptic and a hyperbolic umbilic. The elementary cell of such umbilic is a vortical constellation positioned in a strong definite order. Impurities in the form of coupled optical vortices in the initial radiation stimulate displacements elementary sells or vortices into the sells relative to each other so as to induce a growth of dislocations.
A control of the links between of the coupled vortices enables us to control all a vortical net in the caustic structure. By reflecting the controlled wave caustic into a nonlinear material, for instance, in a photorefractive crystal, we can form a real controlled gap band photonic crystal.
Section was created in 1990.
